This qualification is for the architectural enthusiast and introduces technical drawing, design fundamentals and green and sustainable design. It familiarises participants in the areas of architectural drawing, construction methods, building terminology, materials and finishes, model building, periods and styles of architecture. It includes business basics like project management and professional practice management for architectural technologists and how to start your own business.Inscape is the only institution to offer a registered and accredited Higher Certificate in Architectural Technology. 50% of graduates continue studying further in associated fields; Architecture, Architectural Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Civil engineering, Urban Design, Project Management and Design. The institutions that the students in South Africa have enrolled at successfully include: the University of Kwazulu Natal, University of the Free State, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology, University of Johannesburg, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, University of the Witwatersrand, Howard College UKZN, Cranefield College, Design School South Africa, Design Times, Unisa and Inscape Education Group.
SACAP has granted the Inscape Education Group’s Pretoria, Midrand, Durban, Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Distance Learning campuses unconditional validation status for the Higher Certificate in Architectural Technology (NQF level 5).
From 2020, all architectural technology graduates from the Inscape Pretoria, Midrand, Durban, Cape Town or Distance Learning campus can register as Candidate Architectural Draughtsperson with SACAP.
After 2-3 years as a Candidate Architectural Draughtsperson working under a SACAP Registered Professional, candidates can write the Professional Practice Exam (PPE) and register as a Professional Architectural Draughtsperson.
Higher Certificate in Architectural Technology graduates pre-2020, can apply for registration as a Candidate Architectural Draughtsperson after gaining a minimum of 2 years architectural work experience, once registered as a Candidate they will work for a period of 2-3 years under a SACAP Registered Professional.

The qualification will enable learners to further their studies in the architectural profession. Students are provided with the skills, competencies and academic knowledge required to practice in the Built Environment. The qualifying learner can move to other (related) fields or further their studies in the architectural profession.
On completion of this course students will have the ability to: Explore the relationships between architecture, environment, technology, engineering and craft, and how they combine to improve human conditions and communicate effectively and accurately with other professions and trades in the built environment. Employment within the industry would include junior draughtsman or office administrator within the built environment.
