Igniting Creativity. Developing Innovators. Designing the Future.
The Young Designers Award (YDA) is Inscape ’s flagship design-thinking competition. It is designed to inspire and empower the next generation of creative problem-solvers, cultivate awareness of design as a career path, and promote design thinking among youth.
The competition has previously explored themes such as the circular economy, cultural representation, and future-forward design thinking, positively influencing student engagement, school partnerships, and brand visibility.
Although the programme has not run since 2022, the 2026 relaunch of the Young Designers Award presents a valuable opportunity to build on past successes while refining the format for greater reach and impact. By promoting inclusive participation and creative problem-solving, YDA 2026 will inspire and educate learners, introducing them to design as a dynamic, transformative career path.
Change for Climate will explore new ways of designing, making, and using things that are better for people and the planet. When we talk about tackling climate change, we often talk about the switch to renewable energy — and although this is vital, it’s only half the story. Almost half of greenhouse gas emissions come from the way we make and use products and food. This programme, in partnership with Inscape and the African Leadership University, will demonstrate how circular economy innovation is key to reducing emissions.
How does it work?
The series includes two live interactive webinars with a different challenge each week — encouraging participants to think creatively and have lots of fun while designing their own solutions to address climate change using circular economy ideas.
