Turn your creative passion into a profession with a Diploma in Graphic Design and learn how to create visually engaging, contextually situated, sustainable and relevant design solutions.

In preparing designs for reproduction, students engage software applications and manage reproduction processes (specifications, costing and quality control) for multiple media platforms.

Graduates are prepared with attributes and skills to collaborate with other designers and professionals within the Graphic Design industry, to work effectively in creative teams, communicate in design language and confidently present design solutions that are integrated into the learning experience.

Objectives

  • Provide students with a well-rounded understanding of Graphic Design and its application in the world of digital and printed media, visual communication, and information.
  • Equip students with an understanding of the key concepts, facts, principles, rules, knowledge, theories, methodologies, and processes needed for decision-making in researching, conceptualising, designing and executing Graphic Design solutions in unfamiliar and variable contexts.
  • Equip students with the competencies needed to research, identify, analyse, and propose solutions for Graphic Design opportunities and problems in creative, effective, technologically appropriate, sustainable and ethical ways.
  • Provide students with an in depth understanding of sustainable design and the circular economy and the ability to apply these concepts to user experience design in both local and global contexts.
  • Equip students to communicate innovative solutions using verbal, written and visual communications on multiple platforms.
  • Provide students with the decision-making, knowledge and skills to use well-formed arguments and appropriate academic, professional, or occupational discourse to justify their Graphic Design solutions.
  • Prepare students for postgraduate studies in related fields.

Course details

Junior Graphic Designers with this qualification effectively use and manage relevant graphic design technology. This includes designing – and preparing designs for reproduction – using software applications and managing reproduction processes (specifications, costing and quality control).

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

South Africa

National Senior Certificate with admission to diploma or SAQA verification, with Art or Design or Higher Certificate in related field. Competent in English at NQF level 4.

Special admissions

We offer mature age exemption to Degrees, Diplomas and Higher Certificates as per USAF requirements. Inscape Education Group will consider Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on informal or non-formal learning for admission to this course.

International student

For admission to Higher Certificate: South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluation of National Senior Certificate NQF4 equivalence. For admissions to Bachelor’s Degree: Higher Education South Africa (USAF) complete or conditional exemption certificate. A study permit in the name of Inscape Education Group is valid for the duration of the chosen course.
