Careers
Interior designers are typically employed in design agencies, architectural practices and even corporate environments. An alternative to employment is to freelance or to run your own business offering interior design services. An interior designer, can expect to work on varying projects and elements within a project. Choosing to remain broad and work across an entire project requires experience and a good skill set in client briefing, conceptual development, space planning, technical drawings, specifications, visualization, project management and implementation. Alternatively, a specialized approach to an area within a series of projects would hone your knowledge and skill set in that area. For example, you may specialize in conceptual development and design or technical requirements of a project or even project management and implementation. Typical interior projects may include; domestic design (homes), retail design (shops and malls), hospitality design (hotels), services design (airports, hospitals, schools) and specialist design (yachts, vehicles, spaceships).
