Kickstart a journey in online marketing with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Marketing and Communication. Learn to exploit creative design thinking skills, digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, Meta apps and Google Ads. Learn to build strategic Search Engine Optimisation for web and app as well as deploying dynamic digital content to drive consumer behaviour.
Learn how to use digital technology to apply marketing and communication theories and approaches in both local and global contexts. Design thinking is increasingly used in the business world to provide innovative, sustainable, ethical, and socially responsible solutions. The Bachelor of Arts Digital Marketing and Communication is offered at Cape Town, Durban, Midrand, Pretoria and Stellenbosch campuses.
1st year
Subjects include discipline-specific modules including marketing, communication, statistics, english and media studies. In addition, students complete subjects that provide a fundamental understanding of design, design thinking, design constructs, circular design, sustainability, visual communication and photography. Students are trained in computer use, relevant software packages, and the equipment relevant to their field. They are expected to apply these skills in several applied marketing and communication projects. There is a strong emphasis in the first year on building an understanding of marketing and communication, language, and communication skills. Using modules such as Computer Application and Photography students develop digital skills as well as technical storytelling competence.
2nd year
Students continue progress with the discipline focus by completing subjects in marketing, communication, consumer behaviour, digital communication, statistics, and computer application. They continue enhancing their skills in the use of equipment, computers, and software. Students build on the knowledge and skills acquired in the first year and learn to apply qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, to projects in more complex contexts. Students complete a 4-credit job shadowing Work Integrated Learning (WIL) module.
3rd year
Students continue with their marketing and communication focus, with the addition of an entrepreneurship subject. For a final capstone project students research, plan and implement a marketing and communication strategy in a real-world context in which they research, plan, and create a digital marketing and communication strategy for an NGO or company. By creating a portfolio of evidence students enhance their employment opportunities.
Articulation Options
Students who have graduated with the Bachelor of Arts in Digital Marketing and Communication degree may apply to register for an Honours or Post Graduate Diploma in a related field. Institutional minimum requirements will apply.
Students receive a grounding in marketing and communication, research methodologies and statistics, the related theories and knowledge as well as strategies to apply design thinking and processes to implement innovative projects in real-world and digital environments.
3 Year Application - Starting 2025
South Africa
Students with a National Senior Certificate (NSC) stipulating entrance to a bachelor’s degree, with English and Mathematics as subjects may gain access to the BA in Digital Marketing and Communication. Students must have 50% or above for English, and 40% or above for Mathematics or 60% or above for Mathematical Literacy.
Special Admissions
We offer mature age exemption for Degrees, Diplomas and Higher Certificates programmes as per USAf requirements.
Applications from students who wish to gain access through RPL will be considered. The RPL process is described in the Inscape Admissions Policy and Inscape RPL Application form.
International Students
For admissions to bachelor’s degree: Higher Education South Africa (USAf) complete or conditional exemption certificate. A study permit in the name of Inscape Education Group is valid for the duration of the chosen course.

Graduates will be able to tackle marketing and communication tasks, company and brand strategies, as well as the implementation of technology, communication, trend and social media aspects needed for a business to expand its exposure. Digital Marketing & Communication graduates combine research and concepts, taking up the role of strategists and marketing experts in established design studios, corporate environments or as freelance consultants for industry.
