Can I register with SACAP? (SA Council for the Architectural Professions)
SACAP stands for the ‘South African Council for the Architectural Professions.’ If you are registered with SACAP, you are permitted to submit building plans to council for approval using your SACAP number.
Inscape is currently the only higher education provider in negotiation with SACAP, trying to reduce the length of time it takes for graduates of our Higher Certificate in Architectural Technology to register into the 'Registered Draughtsman' category.
Sadly, there is currently still NO validated draughting programme in South Africa, only 3+ Year Degree's & Diplomas in Architecture. This process is however evolving. SACAP has now included text on their website explaining their discussions with the Inscape National office in Pretoria about future validation. Any new validation updates from our side will be shown here on the Inscape website.
Currently SACAP still offers a solution that ALL Higher Certificate in Architectural Technology graduates can follow to register under the 'Registered Draughtsman' SACAP category. Our students have successfully followed this path in the past:
- After graduating, the student must first work in industry for 2x years, then register with SACAP as a 'Candidate Draughtsman.’
- After 3x Years as a 'Candidate Draughtsman,' working in SACAP's 'Mentor Program,' you can write the PPE (Professional Practice Exam) and become a fully 'Registered Draughtsman.'
Higher Certificate - Architectural Technology
- Sadly, in South Africa there are currently no 1x Year SACAP ‘validated’ courses in Architectural Technology, only 3+ Year Degree's & Diplomas in Architecture.
- Higher Certificate in Architectural Technology graduates can, however, register with SACAP under their 'Registered Draughtsman' category by following the path of registration explained above.
