In addition, students embark on discipline-specific modules in marketing, communication, statistics, English and media studies. Students are trained in computer use, software, equipment and applications relevant to their field and apply these skills in several applied projects. There is a strong emphasis in the first year on building an understanding of the areas of marketing and communication, language and communication skills. Using modules such as Computer Application and Photography students develop digital skills as well as technical storytelling competence. Basic research methodology is addressed from the first year and gradually built on in an integrated manner throughout the programme.

Students continue with Visual Communication, whilst progressing with Marketing, Communication, Consumer Behaviour, Digital Communication, Statistics and Computer Application in which they learn to use equipment, computers and software. Students build on the knowledge and skills acquired in the first year and learn to apply them to basic qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, case studies and more complex contexts. Students complete a 4-credit job shadowing Work Integrated Learning (WIL) module.

3rd year

Students continue with their marketing and communication focus, entrepreneurship is covered, and students embark on a final project in which they research, plan and implement a marketing and communication strategy in a real-world context. Students are expected to apply what they have learnt in the first and second year to a project requiring research, planning and implementation of a digital marketing and communication strategy for an NGO or company. Students are equipped to create a portfolio of their own work in a digital format which can be used to enhance their employment opportunities.
